Today we’ll analyze another Popular Theme:

  • GeneratePress.

We’ll see what it offers and, as always:

  • We’ll Test its Speed and How it Performs, compared to Twenty-Twenty Theme.

As usual, to do so, we will use our Test Site:

  • We’ll measure its Page Speed with GeneratePress installed… And without it.

In case you don’t know, in this section we talk about How we are building this Website: our SEO strategy, Plugins we use, our Traffic Results…

This Post will be divided into 3 different parts:

1. What does GeneratePress offer?

2. Is GeneratePress a fast Theme? How does it affect Page Speed?

3. Our Google Analytics report for today: Users and Page Views we have.

Let’s begin:

1. What does GeneratePress offer?

GeneratePress is a WordPress theme that Claims to be Fast and Compatible with the majority of Page Builders.

Since we use WPBakery in our Site, we first tested its compatibility: It is compatible with WPBakery.

Before we analyze its Speed, let’s analyze what this Theme looks like.

As always, this is our Reference Post, using the Twenty-Twenty Theme:

Now, let’s see what this same Post looks like with GeneratePress:

It divides the Layout into different sections separated from each other.

  • What is common in “highly compatible” Themes.

I personally like this layout, as it allows intuitive access to different sections.

  • I like the different sections to be separated from each other.

Also, although it appears to be a visual-content oriented theme, it can be used perfectly for “corporate” sites.

But now comes the most important question: Is it a Fast lightweight Theme as they Claim?

Let’s Test its Speed:

2. Is GeneratePress a fast Theme? How does it affect Page Speed?

First, we have tested the Speed of our Test Site using the Twenty-Twenty Theme.

  • We use Chrome’s Lighthouse Tool.

This Site has no Plugins installed, just one Sample Post with:

  • 200 Paragraphs.
  • 1 Heavy Image.

Performance – Benchmark

* Remember: This Largest Contentful Paint (5.1 s) is due to the Large Image we use in the sample Post.

  • We want to have a representative Page to test.

Opportunities – Benchmark

Then, we have Installed the GeneratePress Theme and Measured the page Speed again:

Performance with GeneratePress Theme

Opportunities with GeneratePress Theme

Let’s compare the results obtained.

The 2 most significant variations are:

  • Largest Contentful Paint: From 5.1 to 3.7 seconds: – 1.4 s.
  • Remove unused CSS: From 0.9 to 0.3 seconds: – 0.6 s.

The rest of the metrics hardly change.

Is GeneratePress a good Theme?

  • Not only for its Appearance, but for its Compatibility and Speed.

Themes that are compatible with Page Builders tend to be a bit “slow”.

However, GeneratePress not only proved to be compatible with all our Plugins.

It proved to be perfectly compatible with our Page Builder (WPBakery) offering good Page Speed results.

3. Our Google Analytics report for today: Users and Page Views we have.

We hope we are wrong, but this will probably be our “last good week” in a month and a half.

  • Why? Christmas Holidays.

Our Site is almost 1 year and 7 months old.

Let’s see how it is doing:

As you can see in the Top image of the Post, in the last 7 days we have received 3,500 users.

  • Our record so far.

We currently receive 17,577 Pageviews per month.

  • One year ago we had 1,500 approx.

Our goal of 20,000 Pageviews per month will have to wait until January.

None of this would be possible without you.

As always: Thanks for being there.
