Today, we want to explain something that has been “worrying” us for days: Google Snippets.

  • Will they affect our SEO “strategy”?
  • What exactly they are?

We’ll now share with you all we have discovered so far and why they can offer a good opportunity for your Website.

Let’s begin:

1. What Snippets are.

You surely have noticed that for some time now, Google answers certain queries  by showing a little “box” with a proposed answer.

 

* For exampleif you look for “how to make sushi” (not specifying whether it is a nigiri a maki…) you’ll obtain this answer:

 

 

A Snippet is an answer to your Query, suggested by Google, after having analyzed the most relevant Websites that talk about the Topic to which that question belongs.

 

Why were we worried about the Snippets?

  • Because they discourage the users from looking for more answers.

If your website is not among the top 10 ranking, Snippets make even more difficult that users keep looking for more answers.

 

2. Why Snippets are a good opportunity for your Website.

What is the good point then?

Snippets are “pretty new” and there are millions of “old” websites that doesn’t have their content properly Snippet-oriented.

 

You can take advantage of this situation and start optimizing your content so it can be a good Snippet candidate.

  • Of course, you’ll have to offer high quality content. Otherwise, your site would never be even regarded as a relevant site, what is vital for becoming a Snippet candidate.

 

3. How can you generate Snippet oriented content.

It is as easy as maintaining a clear Question – Answer structure:

  1.  State a question with a H2, H3… Heading.
  2.  Answer it directly in a concise way just after this Heading.
  3. Don’t exceed the 50 words. We have analyzed almost a hundred Snippets, and few of them had more than 50 words.

By following this straightforward structure, we’ll have more chances of placing our content within a Snippet.

 

4. Today’s Google Analytics report with our daily Users and Pageviews.

Our started-from-scratch website has been active for 2 months and 17 days.

Let’s see how it is doing:

Users:

At the Post’s top image you can appreciate that yesterday we had 10 users.

 

Pageviews:

Yesterday we experienced a more “normal” day. We had 10 unique pageviews.

Compared to the 70 pageviews we had the day before, they seem few, but this is how Google works:

  • Spike-Valley.
  • Higher Spike – Higher Valley.
  • And so on.

 

As we told you on our “How Google Ranks your site” Post, we think that Google Search Console moves your site at different ranking positions until it finds which are the Queries that better fit your content.

  • Check the Post in case you are more interested.

These results must be improved, but we are very optimistic about the tendency.
