This week, we are planning the next quarter we’ve got ahead us:

  • New Topics.
  • New sections.
  • What we will focus on.
  • etc.

Hence, today we want to share with you, when we consider it necessary to update the content of our website.

As usual, this Post will be divided into 2 parts:

1. How often should you update content on your website?

2. Today’s Google Analytics report with Users and Pageviews we currently have.

Let’s begin:

1. How often should you update content on your website?

This August, we took one whole week of vacation: we needed it.

The week after (this week) we are using it for planning our next quarter:

  • We’ll add 2 new sections:
    • Data Analysis.
    • Business Ideas.
  • We also have defined what we’ll talk about and how.

Why did we decided to add these 2 new sections?

  • We think this content will fit perfectly with the existing one.
    • It will add value to our visitors.
  • We can share lot of interesting information due to our professional experience (assessing Businesses).
  • They are Trending Topics (especially the “Data Analysis” Topic).
    • Our visitors may be interested about it.
  • We have received several Queries about these Topics, and we are not covering them explicitly.
    • Remember what we recommended you about how using Google Search Console Queries on our “Improving your SEO” Post.

Hence, when should you update your Website content?

  • Whenever you find new interesting Topics that fit with what you talk about on your site.
    • You have to build a place where your visitors can find lot of interesting and useful content, not just on single specific page.
  • When you find it difficult to publish new content within your current sections.
    • If you need to think hard about a new Topic, you maybe need new sections.
  • Of course, if your Content is outdated.

Regarding updating your Published content:

Some people recommend to update it once a year.

We think that, if your content is doing well, and it is not outdated, you should not touch it:

  • If you had a Website talking about History you should not be updating your pages “per se”.
    • Providing you had good quality content, obviously.
  • On the other hand, if you talked about mobile phones…you should be ready to update your content monthly.

When you modify some content, Google notices about it and reassign different Queries to it depending on what you added.

  • If it is not doing well, maybe, updating it is a good option.
  • But… if it is already doing good, why bothering Google, and risk your ranking position?

Summarizing: don’t update your content just for updating it. Think always about its quality and what you are offering to your users, nothing else.

2. Today’s Google Analytics report with Users and Pageviews we currently have.

Our website is 3 months and 16 days since we started it from scratch.

  • In this Diary, we share with you all we have learnt so far so you don’t commit our same mistakes.
  • If you want to check all our Posts, visit the “Website building and SEO Diary” section.

Let’s see how it is doing:

Users:

As you can see in the Post’s Top picture, yesterday we had 11 users.

  • Not bad, but our current goal is to achieve 20 users per day.

Pageviews:

Regarding pageviews, yesterday we had 20 unique ones.

This is remarkable since we had almost 2 pageviews per user.

Again, these numbers must improve: lets see if our new sections attract more users and pageviews.

Thanks for being there.
