We want to share with you something we have realized after several moths analyzing our Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

Since we don’t promote our content (check our “3 months special Post” if you want to find out why are we following this SEO strategy) we have pure information about what Google has done with our Site.

We have discovered that, sometimes, our Website traffic drops without us doing anything.

Today, we’ll share with you why we think this happens.

In case you don’t know, in this section we talk about How we are building this Website: our SEO strategy, Theme and Plugins we use, our Real Results (Pageviews and Users we have)…

Hence, this Post will be divided into 2 parts:

1. Why your Website traffic drops without you doing anything strange.

2. Our Today’s Google Analytics report with users and pageviews we had.

Let’s begin:

1. Why your Website traffic drops without you doing anything strange.

As you can appreciate at the Post’s top picture, these last 2 days have been quiet good.

However, remember that in our last Post (“51st day“) we told you how our previous week had been not really good.

In the past, we also experienced very “bad” days that were followed by much better ones.

  • What happened? Why did our traffic drop and later increased?

We think we’ve got an answer: We included new content or modified several minor things in our Site.

Past situations where we suffered a Website traffic decrease:

1. In our “9th day” Post, we explained how bad our previous 3 days were.

  • However, check our “12th day” Post’s Google Analytics picture:

Check how our traffic decreased to almost zero users and then increased gradually.

What happened?

2. In our “41st day” we told you how bad our pageviews had been during the weekend.

  • However, check our “45th day” Post’s Google Analytics picture:

Check how our users increased exponentially.

What happened?

3. In our “51st day” Post we explained how bad our previous week was.

  • However, check our Today’s Google Analytics report:

Check again how after some “bad days” we had a remarkable increase in users.

What happened?

  • We didn’t Post or added new content (since I was, and still am on parental leave) but I made several minor “aesthetic” changes to some Pages (lines, colors…) in my spare time the week before.

Why has your Website traffic decreased for no reason?

We think that whenever Google detects that you made some changes in your Website, it “slows” or somehow keeps into the “freezer” your Content in order to figure out whether you changed substantially:

  • Existing content.
    • If your pages are well ranked for some content, you should not change them substantially since Google would have to re-rank them (logically)
  • Your Website’s main Topics.
    • For example: If you talk about Business, you’d better not start Posting about… Rugby).

It would make sense since, you ranked for certain Topics and Content: If you change it, add new, or Edit it, you may alter the whole site and Google must check how it looks now.

2. Our Today’s Google Analytics report with users and pageviews we had.

Users:

As you may have already seen, yesterday we had 24 users.

  • Also the day before had been quiet good.

Pageviews:

These last 2 days we had 60 unique pageviews.

  • We are very happy about there results, of course, but we have to be prudent.

We have a long road ahead.

Here, we’ll continue sharing with you our experience about building a new site from scratch, all we are learning, our mistakes and strategies.

  • Check all our Posts here.

* Remember: these days, we’ll try publishing as much as we can, but since I am in parental leave (I am the only one that knows how WordPress works) … We can’t guarantee one Post per day. Sorry!

Thanks for being there.
